Part of the Business Regulation and Enforcement Unit, the Scrap Metal Section is responsible for the registration of Scrap Metal Dealers in Mississippi. The Section is charged with enforcing the Mississippi Scrap Metal Property Dealer Registration Act and the Rules promulgated thereunder. Strong enforcement of this Act and the Rules deters metal theft and serves to protect the Scrap Metal industry. The Section carries out these functions under the authority granted to the Secretary of State by Mississippi Code Annotated 97-17-71, et seq.

NOTICE!! The Mississippi Scrap Metal Property Dealer Registration Act, which requires registration and recordkeeping, etc., goes into effect August 8, 2008.  However, registration applications filed by September 5, 2008 will be deemed timely filed by the Secretary of State.  Recordkeeping and other provisions of the Act are nonetheless in force August 8, 2008.
